"One! Two! Three! Four!"

Summary: This is the sound of the live concert the Ramones played on September 13 1978 for the tv show "Musikladen" in Bremen in West Germany (not in "Germany" as reunification was still 11 years in the future). I recorded it three nights ago straight from my tv into the computer when the concert was broadcasted as "Musikladen Rockarchiv - Live Concert 1978" through local Bavarian TV. I first saw the show in 1997 when it was broadcasted by local North German TV. I don't know whether the concert was previously broadcasted by any other German TV station or not, probably only by local Bremen TV. "Beat Club" was a legendary tv show produced by Mike Leckebusch for Radio Bremen starting I think in 1965 with a lot of British and American stars, but also appearances by German beat bands. Some years later Leckebusch changed the concept of the show, threw the audience out of the studio and started to record a lot of progressive and Kraut bands live in the studio. The tv show ended I think in 1974 with a studio concert by The Osmonds! After "Beat Club" Leckebusch started the music show "Musikladen" which again was produced in front of an audience and it mixed rock music with comedy like the famous "Insterburg & Co.", but also Dietrich Kittner, a left-wing political comedian from Hannover and father of the late Konrad K. of Abstürzende Brieftauben-fame, had an appearance, which resulted in a total tv-ban for years. In the late Seventies some Punk and New Wave bands showed up in "Musikladen" and also The Clash were invited but Strummer and Co. weren't as handsome as expected so they were cut out of the show - and by the way, there were better music shows on German tv like "RockPop" and "Szene 77/78/79" with Thomas Gottschalk, were I first heard of the Ramones and immediately bought their second album. But Mike Leckebusch liked girls with big tits and so "Musikladen" had an endless run of horrible girl groups from the Netherlands like Luv. I remember seeing the Ramones at "Musikladen" in 1978 (and Chris Spedding with "Pogio Dancing" in 1977, backed by some gogo dancers with of course big tits) but that was only a mimed appearance for their "Don't Come Close"-7". Probably someone else has posted this show before, maybe it is available on vinyl, CD or even DVD, but "I don't care"! It's not as good as "It's Alive" but better than "Loco Live", so crank up the speakers and annoy your local kidpunx with the real stuff!

Ramones downloading now (they were the first punk band i saw live - around this time too) - many thanks. I liked your write-up of music on TV - it was the same in the UK - we got very little punk stuff - certainly no full concerts - there would be short, incredible clips of the pisols/clash etc - it sort of made it more potent!

again, thank you ...
